What is the Billingsley School of Music & Arts?

The Billingsley School of Music & Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides (Pay-What-You-Can) & free arts access to underserved youth in Dance, Drama, Music, & Visual Art.

What age groups do you serve?

We serve all ages. Babies, Infants, Toddlers, Pre-K, K-12, & Adults.

I love singing, drumming, piano, stepping, and fashion design. May I study all 5 of these art forms?

Yes! You are allowed to study up to 5 different subjects at one time.

What if we miss the mandatory Launch Party & Open House?

You MUST attend class the week immediately following the Launch Party or your membership will be given to another student on the Wait List.

Are there any costs?

Yes, a (Pay-What-You-Can) payment plan will be established by YOU when you fill out the BSOMA application. A minimum fee of $40 will be accepted for arts services.

If you can't afford to pay at all, please contact the Executive Director to negotiate a scholarship & volunteer opportunity.

Are there expectations of BSOMA students?

Yes! BSOMA students are EXPECTED to attend FAITHFULLY, arrive ON TIME, and demonstrate RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR while in our building.

It is also IMPERATIVE that they show an INTEREST and COMMITMENT to PROGRESSING in the Arts & BSOMA Program.

When are Summer classes held? Where?

Classes take place on Saturdays on specific days & times throughout the Summer.

When will I know if my child has been accepted into BSOMA?

After you have successfully completed the Summer Registration Form, received an email confirmation, attended the BSOMA Launch Party, & successfully attend the first week of actual classes.

Where are you located?

In the Summer of 2016 we were located at The Cowles Center for Dance & Performing Arts.

In the Summer of 2017 we will be housed out of a school in Northeast Minneapolis. More details in March 2017.

How do you determine eligibility for BSOMA?

Our only requirement is that our students have a love & passion for the arts and give MAXIMUM effort.

What will the Launch Party be like? How should I prepare my child?

Meet David Billingsley, the founder and executive director, and hear from him personally as he shares the BSOMA vision, mission, and answers questions.

Experience faculty & student performances, special guest appearances, parent workshops, student activities, & equal arts access community building.

Enjoy yourself while you mingle with BSOMA teaching staff, explore the studio spaces, and get to know your BSOMA classmates.

What will a day in BSOMA look like?

7.) Children building school readiness skills as well as gaining artistic abilities that prepare them for study in any arts or academic subject.

8.) Our developmentally appropriate classes explore arts concepts through singing, dancing, playing, creative dramatics, visual arts, instrument exploration, theatre, acting, fabrics, and more.

9.) You will see very talented kids who are being encouraged to work hard and achieve their dreams.

10.) Major life-changing performance opportunities both locally & nationally.  This will only add more fuel to each student's personal dreams & goals fire; giving the kids hope and a bright future to look forward to.

What is the purpose of your website?

The purpose of this website is to increase awareness about the lack of arts access in our communities. We are determined to bring about a serious call to action, and be a true agent for change in our society.
